A cousin of David Leary (a nephew of Silas Leary), Josephus Leary donated money to this church (Mt. Horeb Church) and they used it to remodel the church. It is now quite a modern country church.

Josephus Leary died of pneumonia at his home near Hinton, Va., Mar. 7; aged about 68 years. He was a consistent member of the U. B. Church and leaves his wife to mourn her loss. Funeral services were conducted at the Mt. Horeb Church Mar. 9, conducted by A. P. Funkhouser and C. Good from I Cor. 7:29-31. He was interred in the cemetery nearby.
The 1880 United States Census states that Josephes Lary worked on the farm of Jacob Dundore in Central District, Rockingham County, Virginia.
The 1910 United States Census states that Josephus Leary is a farmer living with his wife, Elizabeth, and a servant.
Josephus married Elizabeth. (Elizabeth was born about 1842, died on 8 Dec 1917 and was buried in Mt. Horeb Cemetery, Hinton, Virginia.)
