Hugh earned a B.A. from Alma College in 1956, and continued graduate study at the University of Michigan where he completed his MS in 1969 and PhD in 1979. His career in public education began in Ithaca High School, Ithaca , MI followed by two years in the Huron Valley Schools and ended back at Walled Lake Schools where he served as a speech correction teacher and elementary principal, Director of Elementary Education and Assistant Superintendent for K-12 curriculum. He retired in 1994 with 38 years of service in public education. In accordance with his wishes, Hugh will be cremated and his ashes buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in a private ceremony for the family.
