Notes for Samuel Anderson:

Sources: 1880, 1890, 1900, 1910 census of Macon Twp. Tecumseh Twp. Probate court recoreds in Adrian Michigan. Death marriage records of Lenawee County. Combined atlas maps of Lenawee County (Plot maps) 1874, 1893, 1916

At the age of 23 in 1866, Samuel Anderson left Ireland with his wife, Hannah, and infant son Arthur. Arthur's birth was registered by his mother in district of Galgorm, Union of Ballymena, County of Antrim, on the sixth of August 1866. Sam's father, Arthur, and sister, Matilda may have been with them, if not, they joined Sam and Hannah in New York. Hannah's parents, William Curry and Mary Nisbit joined them in New York in 1870. Hannah's brother, James, also immigrated in 1866. Samuel and Hannah stayed in New York until 1873-1876 then settled in Macon, Michigan, Lenawee County where Sam bought a 100-acre farm.

While in New York Sam and Hannah had 3 children, Susan, John, and Mary. After settling in Macon they had 4 more children, Matilda, Samuel, Fredrick, and William. According to the 1900 census, they had 9 children 7 alive at the time. Mary had died February 20, 1892, so there is one child we have no records on. The census data indicate all members of the Anderson and Curry family could read, write, and speak English. Samuel became a citizen of the United States September 26, 1878.

According to the 1900 census of Lenawee county, Michigan, only Fred and Will were still living at home. 1900 census of Livingston county, Illinois, we found Samuel, age 22, living as a boarder with R. Sonith in Round Grove Campus Village. Mary Kane was living a few miles away in Dwight, Illinois, with her father, and 2 brothers. Her 2 sisters, Martha and Anna were at school.

By 1910, Sam and Hannah were living alone on the farm in Macon. John was living in Emington, Illinois, with his wife Lucy and two sons, (Roy or Ray) age 4 and John F. Age 1. Sam and Mary were also in Emington with their two sons, Irwin age 5 and Ernest age 1. Fred is living with his uncle, James Curry, wife Elizabeth, and their daughter Jennie, age 22, in Macon Township, Lenawee Couty, Michigan.
Sam died March 25, 191, of heart disease and his will listed his heirs:

Hannah of Macon, Michigan (Lenawee county)
Arthur of Dwight, Illinois (Livingston county)
Samuel and John of Emington, Illinois (Livingston county)
Matilda Hunt of Lavern, Iowa
Susie Schreder of Tecumseh, Michigan (Lenawee county)
William and Fred of Macon, Michigan (Lenawee county)

The estate was distributed in the following way:

Hannah recieved 1/3 of the real estate, all the personal property, and $500.00 ($5199.23)
Fred received $1.00
The remaining of the estate was divided equally among the remaining children. ($1482.91)
Hannah gave Fred from her portion an amount equal to what the rest of the children received.

Hannah died February 7, 1915, of paralysis of the heart and her will listed her heirs:

Arthur of Dwight, Illinois
