Karen Curell, Biddle Family Notes: Clyde and his wife established a scholarship at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, UT in memory of Amanda Coller, called the Amanda Coller Excellence in Education Memorial Scholarship. Westminster College is a small liberal arts college with an excellent reputation. Recipients of the scholarship must have a 3.5 GPA and be enrolled in the School of Education. It is not available to incoming freshmen. Clyde stated, "We [he and his wife] decided a scholarship was more personal than giving to a large organization. Westminster was nearby and small. We thought the gift would be lost in a large institution. We have not regretted our decision. A few months ago we received a thank you note from the current recipient of the funds. We also decided to set it up in honor of Amanda because we believe in education (my wife was a teacher) and, according to Ethyl, Amanda did too. It was also demonstrated by the success of her children and grandchildren. By doing this it gives us a feeling that we have tie to past generations of Collers. I guess it means that Amanda will never be forgotten. It is an endowed scholarship fund so the principle remains intact and only the interest is given out each year. Actual investments are pooled with other Westminster funds. Hopefully it will be around for generations."
