bullet  General Notes:

James and his nephew, John Hitchcock, enlisted together in Company E, 81st Regular Ohio Volunteer Infantry in Lima, Ohio. James died of camp fever while home on medical leave.

According to the "Vanity" biography of David Moyers, William (James father) gave each child 100 acres of land except for William, who was killed during the rebellion. It also had James dying of disease during the battle of Corinth. It is questionable that James died in Corinth. It was also reported that he died of typhoid while at home on sick leave.
