General Notes: From "SETTLERS BY THE LONG GREY TRAIL", Page 303: Concerning the proceedings of the Smiths and Linville's Creek Baptist Church: "On the Saturday before the 3rd Lords Day in June, Bro. Johnston being present opened the meeting with prayer. Also, 3rdly, Esther Henton (now Widow of John Henton deceased) presented to the Church, a letter of Dismission, dated Nov. 23, 1766, from a Church of Christ, at Cumry Township, in the County of Berks & Province of Pennsylvania, baptized on Profession of their faith in Christ & etc. And Amelia Bowen, Wife of Francis Bowen, presented a Letter of Dismission, from the United Baptist Church of Christ at Mill Creek, Shenandoah County, Virginia. Each of the aforesaid Sisters, were received upon their Letters, the last Letter Dated May 28, 1791." Esther married John Henton, son of George Henton Sr. and Persis Boone. (John Henton was born in 1732 in Berks County, Pennsylvania and died on 31 Oct 1804 in Rockingham County, Virginia.) |
