General Notes:
Family lore has it that Margaret J. Miller married Charles Nathaniel Haskell and moved west to Oklahoma where he became the first governor of Oklahoma. My research concludes that Margaret J. Miller married Reuel Haskell, the brother of Charles Nathaniel Haskell.
Margaret moved to Oklahoma with her husband, Reuel, and his brother, Charles, in 1900. Two of her sons, Oliver Dean Haskell and George Carlos Haskell stayed in Ohio. Four sons moved with the family. Margaret was 43 at the time and died 8 years later. She died at her home, located at 550 South Sixth Street, Muskogee, Oklahoma in 1908. It is a small frame home. In 2003 it was covered with yellow aluminum siding that was falling off and the owner at the time was thinking about tearing it down and building a new structure. A later visit shows a house that has been renovated instead of torn down.
She is buried in Green Hill Cemetery located at 1500 North York Street in Muskogee (Phone: 918 6820331). Cemetery records show block 032, lot 001 and space 004. These records state date of birth as 1858 though she was actually born on June 24, 1857. She is listed in the cemetery records as Haskell, Ruel (Mrs Paul), but her headstone reads "MOTHER - Mrs. Reuel Haskell". http://www.muskogeeonline.org/cemetery/home.asp
In a letter written by her husband Reuel Haskell in 1935, he refers to "Poor Dear Maggie. How I have missed her these many years. A better wife and mother never lived. Always ready and willing to do her part and more".
Haskell was spelled Haskle in the 1880 U.S. Census.
